Book a roomA castle becomes a residence
Around 1100 Arnold I of Scheyern had a castle built on the Schlossberg next to the village of Dachau and called himself Count of Dachau after it. In 1182 the castle passed to Otto of Wittelsbach, the first Wittelsbach duke of Bavaria. From 1398 the original complex was demolished, and the first stone four-wing complex was built in its place.
In the 16th century it became a Renaissance palace and was later partly remodelled in the Baroque style. Of the four wings only one stands today.
