Book a roomA palace in the water
Blutenburg Palace lies in the west of Munich in the district of Obermenzing, surrounded by the Würm. It goes back to a 13th-century moated castle, first mentioned in writing in 1432. Duke Albrecht III extended it into his country seat and hired the best master builders and painters of his time for it.
His son Sigismund later retired here and had the palace chapel built in 1488, which still contains a Throne of Grace from the workshop of the painter Jan Polack.
