How the tour runs
From Lustheim the route crosses the Schleißheim heathland to Munich. Here it follows an old tramline which became a green cycling corridor after the U-Bahn was built in 1993, and continues as far as the Olympiapark.
Once there, you should set aside some time. The concept of the “Games in the Green” can be seen in the generous design of the park and the tent-like linked roof construction of the venues. A very special place in Munich.
Along the Biedersteiner Kanal the route continues to Nymphenburg Palace. For centuries it was the summer residence of the Wittelsbachs.
Along the palace wall the path leads west past Blutenburg to the Würm. The Würm is the only outflow of Lake Starnberg, which was called Würmsee until 1962, and flows into the Amper near Dachau.
The picturesque river leads out of Munich and, along the Würmkanal, to the Olympic regatta course in Oberschleißheim, the venue of the canoe sprint and rowing competitions.
In Oberschleißheim you should definitely allow some time for the imposing Schleißheim palace complex. It was the summer residence of the Bavarian electors and has a beautiful Baroque garden. Across the Schleißheim heathland you ride back to Lustheim. The tour ends at Hotel Kurfürst.
