English Garden
One of the largest city parks in the world lies a good 10 km south of us as the crow flies.
Book a roomA park like a landscape
The English Garden lies in the north-east of Munich on the west bank of the Isar. Its design follows English landscape gardens: wide meadows, groups of trees, streams and paths that wind through the space rather than run straight. Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell took them as his model. The park is one of the first large parks on the European continent that anyone could enter.
Today around five million people visit it every year. The park divides into a southern part close to the city centre of a good 130 hectares and a less visited northern part, the Hirschau, of about 245 hectares. The Isarring separates the two.
How to get there from us
All routes begin at our hotel in Oberschleißheim.
By bicycle
The park is easy to reach by bike, at a good 10 km as the crow flies. The park has its own rules for cyclists, so please follow the signs on site.

The S1 takes you to the city centre, where the underground continues. The U3 and U6 lines stop at Münchner Freiheit and at Universität, both not far from the park. The MVV timetable shows the connection in detail.
By car
Parking in the city centre is limited. We recommend travelling by train; parking at our hotel is free for that.
What to do there
Walk to the Monopteros, a small round temple on a hill with a view of the city. Sit by one of the streams or in a beer garden under chestnut trees.
If you are travelling with family, take your time on the meadows. If you come alone, you will find peace in the extensive northern part.
