How the tour runs
It starts in Lustheim. Through the heathland of north Munich you reach the Allianz Arena, the home of FC Bayern. A tip for fans: the arena tour and the club museum.
A scenic ride along the Isar leads to the English Garden, where you can soak up Munich's way of life in one of the beer gardens. Then the route passes the Residenz on its way to Odeonsplatz, where the Hitler Putsch came to a violent end at the Feldherrnhalle in 1923.
Across Marienplatz you reach the Viktualienmarkt – with a fresh snack you can dive into the bustle of the old town. The next stop is Nymphenburg Palace: for centuries the summer residence of the Wittelsbachs, it counts among the great royal palaces of Europe.
Along the Biedersteiner Kanal the path leads to the Olympiapark, venue of the 1972 Summer Games. The park owes its high recreational value to this day to the concept of the “Games in the Green”.
On a former tram line the route continues to the Flugwerft Schleißheim. Established in 1912 as an airfield of the Royal Bavarian flying corps, it is today a branch of the Deutsches Museum with more than 8,000 m² of exhibition space on aviation history.
To finish, the Schleißheim palace complex: originally planned as an imperial residence, it is one of the most important Baroque ensembles in Germany.
